I received a lot of emails from people asking what I think of the plea bargain story published by media: I have to say that I am amazed to see so many people believe everything printed in media without a shadow of a doubt; without asking themselves any questions. I believe there was a plea bargain, this is the way the American Justice System works. I also believe the offer didn't come from Westerfield but from the prosecution and I believe Westerfield rejected their offer, otherwise, why would two cops attempt to visit Westerfield in jail THE DAY AFTER Danielle's body was found? When a man has been charged for a crime and has retained a lawyer, any communication has to be made through his lawyer, this is the law. Why did these two cops, Ott and Keyser (*) , take their chance in breaking the law AFTER Danielle's body was found? I see only one reason, they were still trying to pressure David Westerfield to confess or to take a plea bargain. Westerfield refused to see them. In the Stephanie Crowe's case, cops obtained a taped confession from Stephanie's brother who was 14 year old. After two days of questioning, alone, without parents or a lawyer, Michael gave the police a videotaped confession. (*) According to an article published in the San Diego Tribune in April 2002: in 1989 one of the cops was acquitted of beating up a suspect in a drug case. In 2000, an investigator for the District Attorney's Office wrote an internal memo to a prosecutor accusing both cops of falsifying statements in an affidavit in order to get an arrest warrant. |
