Media says that Westerfield was preparing to reveal where Danielle's body was in exchange for a life sentence without parole instead of a death penalty. This information has not been confirmed either by Dusek, Feldman or the Van Dams. When asked about the plea bargain the Van Dams answered they didn't know anything about a plea bargain and people should not believe everything that is printed by the media. My point of view: the plea bargain story is very appropriate to reassure the jury, especially the juror having to leave the court room with an urgent need for a paper bag. The plea bargain story might convince this juror or others that she did the right thing and dissuade her from revealing to media what has happened during deliberations. September 14th 2002 - According to an article published in the San Diego Union Tribune: An appellate court ordered judge Mudd to stop conducting secret hearings and release transcripts of more than 20 hearings held behind closed doors unless he can justify his actions. The appellate court ruling also requires the transcripts of the hearings to be released by Sept. 23 and gives Mudd the options of editing out parts of the transcripts and documents or not releasing them if he can give satisfactory reasons.
